Lio Beardsley

My friend Lio Beardsley is a talented illustrator from Hong Kong. I know I’ve given her shout-outs before, that’s because she’s just so damn talented! Her list of accomplishments include winning the Anna Sui Dolly head contest in 2003 and working with clients such as Maybelline, Vidal Sassoon. In 2005, she published her first illustration book titled as “into the Magical World of Delite”. I asked a friend of mine to bring a copy back from Hong Kong since it wasn’t available in Canada. I often flip through the cheerful pages when I’m feeling a little blue. Her work is beautiful, whimsical and puts a smile on my face.
Recently, Lio was just featured in a commercial for the Sony alpha900 camera.
Lio and I met unofficially when I read an article about her in Elle UK a couple years ago. The article featured photos of her amazing illustrations and beautiful home which she shares with 2 kitty cats and boyfriend Hei. After I read the article I felt inclined to contact her. Just a little note to let her know that her work is really special and it certainly has inspired me.
Now I NEVER do this kind of thing! I’m by no means a weird stalker lady who contacts everyone I read about in the news. But there was something about work that really felt special to me.
Lio and I have been pen pals for a while now, we like to send little gifts back and forth from time to time. After getting to know her a little bit, I realised that we have alot in common. We both love quirky vintage finds, we adore our kitty cats that we also have the same birthday! Maybe that’s why we have the same sensibilities in design? Anyways it’s cool ‘cos it’s like having a twin half way around the world! ![]()
