Hell Week
10th November 2008
Two weeks before any show, especially a big show like the One Of A Kind Show, my life takes on certain changes. Fondly referred to as “Hell week”, it is not unlike extreme measures some people take in preparation of the arrival of a hurricane. Trust me, once the show actually starts, this 11 days, 11 hours PER day show really does feel like a hurricane. A crafty, one-of-a-kind, semi-precious hurricane.
During Hell Week things change. Dishes stack up in the sink a little higher, I go a few more days in between washing my hair (eww gross but true), I sleep a few hours less every night, recreational activities cease to a halt, my friends are like “Amy? Amy who?” and my mother calls missing persons ‘cos she hasn’t heard from me in days. Don’t talk to me, don’t ask me questions, don’t bug me - take out menus are on top of the fridge. I am a busy busy bee getting ready for the storm.
Having said that, I do have an important date tonight, one that I have looked forward to and will take time out to enjoy even in this time of crisis. A good friend of mine bought us tickets to go see Dolly Parton tonight (Squeeee!). I love love love her and can’t wait to see her again! For Dolly, and Dolly only, I will put down my sewing needle for the night and drive 2 hours in rush hour traffic to see her.
For Dolly I will wash my hair.
