I am definitely not the type to subject myself to the pushing and shoving of crazy Boxing week shopping. But this year the boy and I decided to spend our holiday gift cards to buy a good camera. I’ve been using my sad little point and shoot camera for about 4 years now. And if you didn’t already know, all Smitten Kitten product photos you see on the website and in print are taken (and painstakingly cleaned up) by lil’ old me. It was time I bought myself a higher end REAL camera for said purposes.
We did our research on-line, found a camera we liked and a place to get it at a good price. So after visiting my mum yesterday, I thought I’d just make a quick stop at the big box store and pick it up. Bad mistake!
Forget about the actual store, the parking lot was a total mess! Shoppers were frantic and desperate to score a parking spot. Their fangs are out for blood and it’s every man for himself. I followed a convoy of cars into the lot and moved just pass a vehicle pulling out of his spot. I stopped, reversed and took the empty spot.
A moment later a man (and no he was NOT a gentleman) who was behind me in the car convoy, got out of his vehicle and as I was getting out of my car, came up and started YELLING at me! Oh he called me all sorts of names and demanded that the spot was his and that I need to get out of his spot.
I was in SHOCK! Nobody likes to be yelled at, not for any reason and ESPECIALLY not by some man I don’t know for something I didn’t do wrong. The yelling on his part got so bad that a couple in a minivan (who saw the whole thing) stopped, leaned out of their window and told him “Stop yelling at her! What’s wrong with you? Leave her alone!”. The nut job didn’t stop yelling so the good Samaritans actually got out of their car to come over, stood by me and told the guy he’s CRA-ZY and to STOP YELLING! Other concerned on-lookers started honking their car horns too and tried to tell him to stop yelling and leave me alone.
During this fiasco three other parking spots have opened up all around him. If he would’ve just shut the !@#* up he would’ve easily parked his car already and be inside yelling at other random strangers. So in the end I said to him “Turn around there’s a spot right there, and there and there. Why are you still yelling at me? MERRY CHRISTMAS!” and walked away. I thanked the lovely couple who came to my aid. I’m a tough cookie and not scarred of much but I was alone and who knows how crazy this guy really is? Maybe this is how he picks up women, by yelling at them in parking lots?
We’ve all had our share of holiday stresses. After all I live in downtown Toronto, at times it can get quite claustrophobic especially during the holiday season. I’ve stood in looooong lines at the post office once if not TWICE a day for the past three weeks to send out orders so I’ve had my share of frustration and anger too. But I go out of my way to be nice to strangers during the holiday season ‘cos I know how tightly wound up we all must be. It’s everybody’s Christmas, not just mine. A little kindness means we all get out alive!
Now I know that I’m not really the one this guy is super mad at, I’m just the one that got the brunt of his anger. Likely he’s been out fighting for parking spots all day, maybe he’s got a wife screaming at him at home or maybe he’s just got a small penis I DON’T KNOW but man did I deserve his wrath?? Did it make him feel better that he’s ruined someone else’s day?
I want to be able to say that I shrugged it off at the end but I was plagued with his bad vibes the rest of the evening. He ruined new camera day for me! It makes me sad to see how some people can be so irrational and mean. I wish it weren’t so.

[...] more important than your time, and what you’re doing. Remember the post I wrote about being yelled at in a parking lot on boxing day? Yeah those types of people! [...]
