One Of A Kind Show wrap up
7th April, 09
The One Of A Kind Show wrapped up on Sunday. A big hug and kiss to everyone who came out to see us! In particular the sweet folks who have been so supportive since we first started doing this show 3 years ago. Thanks for coming to tell us that the brooch you bought, from when we first started in the rising stars section, still gets lots of compliments, and that they are sturdy and you wear it often. Thanks for loving our booth display and telling us we’re doing a good job, and thanks for recommending us to your friends and sending them to our booth. We really wouldn’t be in business without loyal customers like you!
I would’ve written sooner but for some odd reason I was doubled up with stomach pains all day yesterday. Well it started during the tear down Sunday evening. I wasn’t feeling well and by nightfall I couldn’t even stay out for the celebratory dinner and drinks with other vendor friends of ours. I slinked home and crawled into bed. By morning I was feeling worse and at some point in the afternoon I actually thought maybe my appendix had burst or something (if only I had known where exactly my appendix is!). I couldn’t stand up so going to see the doctor wasn’t even really an option. Instead I curled up in the fetal position on the couch with my kitty cat and moaned and felt sorry for myself.
Feeling a lot better today. I can move around and stuff but standing up to walk is still a bit of a chore. I’m chalking it up to a bad case of stomach flu or food poisoning. Just glad I can eat again.
So anyway the show went really well. We got a really good spot this time around. Our booth was at the very front of the show floor near the entrance. My friend Kristine came by the show again and gave us her delicious cookies! Awwww kristine you’re such a sweetheart! Thanks so much! *hug*
Wednesday (opening day) was a bit slow but all the other days were brisk. I wore my new necklace and got lots of compliments on it. I kept having to take it off so customers can try it on. I redirected everyone onto the website with promises that I’ll submit them in time for Christmas show.
I also debuted my Kanzashi Wedding Collection (I’ll post them on my website soon I promise). It’s called the Wedding collection not because these brooches are made for weddings, but because they’re made FROM weddings (they’re made from vintage wedding gowns as fabric, swarvoski crystals and rhinestone centerpieces). People really liked them and Well, they must’ve been great ‘cos someone actually stole one on the Saturday!
Yes Saturday was crazy busy. Ofcourse that was the day that the boy had to duck out for a few hours in the afternoon to take care of some newspaper obligations, leaving me to fend for myself. In the middle of the madness I had a customer walk away from the booth forgetting to take her purchases, so I had to run after her down the aisle. Literally she had just turned the corner and by the time I got out onto the aisle she had disapeared into the crowd. I went back to my booth and that was when I realized that some jerk had taken the few seconds of opportunity to walk away with one of my Wedding brooches. I didn’t know if I should’ve been upset or flattered that they stole one of my new designs.
Sunday was surprisingly busy also. Usually Sundays are the days that I walk around and shop but I couldn’t even really find time to do that this show. Maybe it’s because the weather was beautiful (not like today when there’s snow on the ground). Tear down went quite smoothly. Well aside from the fact that our Tetris skills was a bit lacking so everything fit in the car except for one stupid chair. So I had to stay behind with the chair while the boy drove home to unload a few things, and come back to pick me and the chair up. Still we managed to be home in 2.5 hours. Woohoo!
Well no time to dilly dally. I have to go mail out a few belated website orders today, reply belated emails, clean up my studio, and start thinking about new products for the National Stationery Show… but my stomach still a bit owie and I’m resisting temptation to curl back up on the couch again. C’mon Amy up and at’em! You can do it!
Thanks again for coming to the show everyone. See you at Christmas time!

You’re welcome for the cookies. Gee, I hope they weren’t what made you sick!
Hope you are feeling better. It was great to see you and Keith, and all your stuff looked delightful as always. Love your sweet hair clips!

Oh jeez Kristine. I can’t believe I was so thoughtless as to talk about your delicious cookies and the stupid stomach flu in the same blog post! Of course it’s not from your cookies! They’re what made me feel better!!

Hi Amy - I’m a fellow vendor at the OOAK show. Actually, I met you when you gave an inspirational talk to newbies a couple of years ago.
Your necklaces are stunning! Will you have them at the Christmas show?
Regarding your poor tummy - you didn’t by any chance have the cobb salad from the show did you? I too, wound up with the same type symptons and the only thing I can think of was that salad i had eaten just 1/2 hour before. There’s nothing worse….especially when you have a few gals shopping in your booth!
have a fabulous summer! see you at the Christmas show,
Tracy

Awww Tracy, thanks for the nice comment. How was the show for you? Hope it went fantastic!
No I didn’t have the cobb salad at the show. The last thing I ate was burger and fries at the grill joint up at the front of the hall. I hope your tummy ache wasn’t too painful! I’m sure a few of us vendors got sick. Being that we were all working in the same environment for 5 days!
Well I look forward to seeing you at Christmas (yes I’ll hopefully have my necklaces, jury pending).
Have a wonderful summer and talk soon!
Amy
