Best birthday ever!
10th June, 09

Sorry to have been MIA for the last couple days. With us going away to Kentucky in two days, and me rushing to get these orders out before we leave, time is just got away from me!
So last weekend was my birthday! I turned *coughmumblecough* on Sunday. As anyone passed the age of turning 18 (when they can start smoking) or 21 (when they can start drinking) would attest, birthdays are bitter sweet. One one hand you’re not exactly looking forward to getting older, but on the other hand, birthdays are so much fun that I can’t help but look forward to them every year!
Every year on my birthday I try to do something extra silly. Last year we went Marineland to pet the beluga whale, another year we went for dinner at Medieval Times. There’s also been trips to Six Flags to celebrate. Actually I’ve been to a few amusement parks on my birthday. Not that I like the rides, in fact I’m terrified of rides and never go on them. But just being at an amusement park is fantastic. I love hearing people scream while I eat cotton candy. It’s like I’m getting older but they’re freaking out.
This year we kinda mellowed out a little (’cos we’re getting older? Eek!). With no plans except for dinner and drinks with friends that evening, the boy and I thought we’d just drive out to a couple small towns to nose around. Not that the towns themselves were why we went, we were looking for an excuse to drive around…
You see the boy got me a Sirius Radio for my birthday this year. Yippee! He noticed that I drive so damn much and hate the local radio stations (yet am not organized enough to bring my own CDs to the car), he thought he should get me satellite radio. Is it ever fun! Gone are the days of flicking through 5 stupid stations to avoid listening to commercials to flicking through 120 stations with NO COMMERCIALS. I was all over it like a donkey on a waffle.
With 120 stations to choose from, the boy has spawned a monster. Up and down the channels I go, barely listening to half a song at a time (He should’ve known, I like flicking channels on the TV also). Up and down, up and down… not willing to settle for just one station when there’s all these other stations which could be playing a better song… a better stand up comedy routine… with better advice on sex! I was burning through the stations so fast that the button on the little remote actually got jammed over the weekend, now I have to go get a replacement.

Dinner and drinks with friends later that evening was AWESOME. Everyone came to celebrate! We had a casual dinner and went dancing afterwards. We even did our traditional eat-your-birthday-cake-without-any-cutlery-or-use-your-hands routine. Yes yes that’s what we do. Every time one of us has a birthday, it’s tradition to eat our birthday cake without any cutlery or use our hands. And if you’ve ever tried doing that you know the only way to accomplish the task would be to put your face down onto the plate and just bite into whatever’s in front of you. Yes it goes up your nose, yes we look stupid, yes we do it at fancy restaurants, and no we don’t allow chumps and mama’s boys to back out just ‘cos it gets messy. Some gangs have nasty hazing rituals, our gang eats cake with no hands.
I also got some wonderful gifts! Some friends chipped in and got me a BEAUTIFUL teapot made by Argentinian artist Lola Goldstein. It’s so adorable I can’t bring myself to use it! Another friend of mine knows I’ve been trying to quit smoking and thought I needed inspiration (yes yes I should know better than to smoke but there are worse things in life no?) so he got me the oral fixation Labbit. Labbits usually smoke, but this particular Labbit is trying to quit smoking so he’s sucking on a carrot (or ice cream cone or noise maker) instead. Squee!
I would definitely say that on this birthday, the sweet definitely outweighed the bitter. I heart my friends and heart my boy and had a wonderful time. You guys rock!
