Junko Mizuno’s art opening

19th June, 09

We went to Junko Mizuno’s “Red Tresses and Freckles” art opening last night at the Narwhal Art Projects.  This is her first solo exhibition in Canada. I’m an admirer of her work and adore her “creepy cute” sense of style. It was lovely to meet her in person and see some of her pieces up close and personal.

Known for her unique gothic kawaii style, Junko Mizuno combines cuteness, gore and eroticism within an oeuvre that includes comics, painting, drawings, animation and toys.  To learn more about her work, go to her website (it’s under construction right now but please check back).  There’s also a couple fan sites out there if you google her name.

We lined up in the gallery for a little while to have her sign one of her little Kid Robot toys.  Even her signature is adorable.  Squee!  So glad we went.
