Up up and away!

28th August, 09

So I’ve gone and done did something crazy last week. I bought myself a ticket to Paris. Squee! Yup you heard me. I’m taking a trip to Paris/Amsterdam in a couple weeks. I couldn’t be more excited!

It’s been a looooong time coming. Gay husband #1 is working in Amsterdam right now and Gay husband #2 is in Paris getting his PHD. They’ve both been screaming for me to come and visit so I don’t know why I haven’t gone sooner. I guess spending money on a vacation when you run your own business seems like a big no-no. Like if there was ever any disposable income then it should just go back into the business, upgrading computer systems or equipment.  But really aren’t I part of the business? Shouldn’t I spend some money to upgrade myself?

Hmmm… When was the last time I went away?  In May?  I go on mini working vacation / road trips all the time. and New York is super fun.  But when you’re there for a show, most of the time is spent working (if not then worrying).  Before that the boy and I went to Vegas a couple years ago and that was a blast.  But that was a couple years ago.  I’m a fall/winter kinda girl so the whole sitting-in-the-sun-and-bake-till-you’re-golden-brown kinda vacation sounds pretty painful to me.  Paris in the September is the perfect choice!

And let me tell you I love traveling alone.  And in particular I love flying alone!  The idea of no one being able to contact me, no cell phones, no faxes, no emails for 8 hours straight sounds almost as relaxing as the vacation itself.  For those 8 blissful hours I can’t feel bad about not working.  I have to sit still and do NOTHING.  I nap when I’m dozy, watch movies when the movies come on, eat food when it’s put in front of me.  Cute compartmentalized foods, all portion controlled and neatly separated in little plastic containers.  It’s like an OCD picnic in the sky!  Now doesn’t that sound fabulous?

So I’ll be landing in Paris first, then taking a train into Amsterdam right away to spend the first few days with friend #1, then hop back on the train to Paris to meet friend #2 and fly home from there (if I come home at all).  Moooohahaha!  Insert evil laugh here.

I’m a little worried about finding my way to the train station from the airport on the first day since I only have about 3 hours from when we land to make the connection.  My french is a little rusty… O.K. fine my french is completely rusted through.  I did take french for 4 years but thanks to my old french teacher Mrs. Bradley (who was too dopey to catch any of her students cheat through 4 years of french classes) none of us ever learnt a damn thing.  So to that end I’ve downloaded a nifty little french translation app for my iphone that’ll do most of my talking for me.  But understanding their answer might be a bit of a problem…

I guess I’ll just have to wing it.  Infact I can’t wait to wing it!
