On of my favourite memories growing up in Hong Kong has always been the Mid Autumn Moon Festival.
On the eve of every festival, it was customary for families to gather around the waterfront and children were given beautiful paper lanterns that we would light up and go for an evening stroll. My cousins and I always had such a fun time showing off our lanterns. I remember seeing little dots of lantern lights that would curve all the way around the path, kinda lighting our way I guess.
Hong Kong can be such a hectic city but in my memory, on that one night of the year, everyone slows down to enjoy the simple pleasures like taking an evening stroll with your family, admiring something as simple as lanterns, sharing conversations with strangers about how beautiful the moon is, and of course indulging in Moon Cake.
Happy Mid Autumn Moon Festival everyone!

Our friends over at Distill Gallery just stocked up on a wide variety of our RIP Cards.

If you haven’t been to Distill Gallery before you should really take an afternoon to check it out. Distill Gallery has always represented the best in design driven Canadian-made goods. Owner Allison has a keen eye for uniquely crafted gifts, jewelery and fashion. You don’t find any granny quits or beer can trucks here, but you might find up-cycled beer bottle glasses, felted monster pins or dead celeb greeting cards (shameless plug).

Oh and before I forget, Distill’s having a show for ceramist Lana Filippone. Her collection of work titled Dwellings On A Whim is awesome (I took a sneaky peak of her work while dropping off our order). Show runs August 30 - September 18.

Squee! It’s been confirmed that we will be exhibiting at the Chicago One Of A Kind Show this Christmas.
In between now and then, if you’re in the Chicago area and jonesing for one of our Silk Scarf Kanzashi Brooches (of course there’s such a thing as jonesing for brooches!), you might want to check out our new fav retailer Magnificent Milestones.

Kara, owner of Magnificent Milestones, contacted us a little while ago about carrying some of our product. We were more than thrilled to be considered a part of her beautifully curated store!

Magnificent Milestones now carry a lovely assortment of Silk Scarf Kanzashi Brooches among other Smitten Kitten goods. Hooray!
